CDC study: Arizona 4th in U.S. for alcohol-poisoning deaths

Over the next few weeks, Phoenix metro will turn into one of the largest party destinations in the country.

The Super Bowl alone will bring at least 40 official concerts and parties, according to an Arizona Republic party list. Then there is the Pro Bowl, the Waste Management Phoenix Open, the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Event and countless tailgates and house parties.

The alcohol will flow, and it is inevitable that at least some tragedy will result.

Last week, Arizona received a sobering reminder of the dangers of binge drinking. The state had the fourth-highest death rate due to alcohol poisoning in the U.S. between 2010 and 2012, according to a CDC study released January 6.
