Could Scottsdale see 3 new marijuana dispensaries?

Three medical-marijuana companies are eyeing the Scottsdale Airpark for new dispensary locations as they look to tap into one of Arizona's highest concentrations of patients authorized to use the drug.

Two proposed dispensaries are on the south side of the airport's runways, while a third is planned near the Scottsdale Quarter office and shopping complex, according to city records. The latter has already been approved for a permit, while a City Council vote is likely upcoming for the others.

Scottsdale City Council OKs Airpark medical-marijuana kitchen

The Scottsdale City Council narrowly agreed to allow a medical-marijuana kitchen in the Scottsdale Airpark, two months after turning down the request.

The council on Jan. 14 granted a conditional-use permit to Pure Bliss Premium Medibles and Topicals, which is the trade name for a line of marijuana-infused goods ranging from brownies to pot pies, according to its website.

The facility, near Hayden and Redfield roads, will prepare foods infused with marijuana and sell them wholesale to medical-marijuana dispensaries, a city report said.

The kitchen will be closed to the general public.

DuPont Air Products to lease at ASU Research Park

DuPont Air Products Nano Materials LLC will lease a building at the Arizona State University Research Park in Tempe.

The company, which provides electronics-polishing products to the semiconductor industry, is expected to move into 95,000 square feet of office and technology space at 8555 S. River Parkway. The new lease is for nine years and is valued at more than $13 million.

It currently has operations in Tempe, but the new space is expected to enhance its ability to serve an expanding client base, according to the Phoenix office of Transwestern, a commercial real-estate firm that represented the landlord, New York-based Lexington Realty Trust.

DuPont Air Products Nano Materials joins several other high-tech tenants at the business park, including Texas Instruments and Infocrossing.

Amazon will open 3rd facility in Valley

Amazon.com Inc. in October plans to open its third metro Phoenix order-fulfillment center, which should create several hundred Valley jobs.

The newest center will be in the West Valley.

The facility, where customers' online orders will be filled and shipped, will be more than 1 million square feet in size and larger than Amazon.com's two other Valley centers, one in Phoenix, the other in Goodyear.

Mary Osako, a spokeswoman for Seattle-based Amazon.com said it will hire several hundred full-time hourly positions and hundreds of temporary workers during peak seasons.

The Goodyear center has hired about 700 extra workers over the holidays.

The Arizona Commerce Authority, established in July to eventually replace the Arizona Department of Commerce, and Gov. Jan Brewer met with Amazon.com officials to encourage them to open a third center in Arizona, spokesman David Drennon said.

Amazon inked a 10 1/2-year lease at 4750 W. Mohave St., near 51st Avenue and Buckeye Road, Phoenix officials said.

Talks with Amazon had gone on for more than a year, city officials said, adding that the site will be Amazon's largest fulfillment center in the United States.
